I saw this teaser trailer for District 9 before the pile of crap called X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Hugh Jackman should be ashamed of himself) and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
It starts off like a trailer for a serious documentary about some foreign country dealing with refugees. For a second it even had me wondering why they were showing it before the first Summer movie of 2009, but then I remembered it had Peter Jackson’s name slapped on it so it couldn’t be what it looked like. You soon find out that the refugees everyone are bitching about are aliens, but here comes the hilarious part; they show the creatures being interrogated but blur their faces! Like an episode of Cops.
Did the aliens refuse to sign some kind of waver that would allow them to show what they looked like? Is it a famous alien we know and it didn’t want to be recognized? Is E.T. back and up to some kind of fuckery? Or did they really think this added to the mystery of the film? If so they should take a lesson from J.J. Abrams on how to do a teaser trailer. Showing the aliens with blurred faces is just friggen hilarious, and surely doesn’t manage to create any Cloverfield type of buzz. Maybe it just has to do with the plot, but then they should have left it out…A shot of the UFO would have been enough to make the message clear that it is extraterrestrials we are dealing with, and not some African country’s refugees fleeing genocide.

Have you seen the movie already? Because it looks like you already know the whole story by watching a 2-minutes long trailer. I totally agree that it’s not the best trailer ever but the movie might be good!!
I didn’t say the movie is bad. I said they failed at making a teaser trailer that teases us by showing the alien but blurring its face.
I think the teaser is very good and I am pretty sure there is a strong reason for blurring the face of the alien. Remember that PJ is behind this project and he is a very meticulous about details. It is obvious the film is about segregated societies and how dysfunctional they can become. Remember the country these events take place is south Africa and they are still a segregated society.
The movie takes place in the 1980s btw.
The trailer was absolutely incredible. What’s it to you if the teaser “teases you”, they only presented a small snippet of the film, you still don’t have a clear idea of what’s going on. Dude it doesn’t really matter if they showed the aliens body in a 5 second interrogation scene. Their still is a massive amount of shit they did not show, so try not to talk.
LMAO! sure, the story seems like a generic video game plot ripping of Alien Nation, but the roach alien with the blurred face makes this trailor awesome! tho, it would’ve funnier if they had the alien’s face blurred as he was beating his wife in the street, ala COPS.. no movie is perfect.
The blurred part is part of the film like I suspected but it was still a silly ending to the trailer. They should have just not shown the alien at all. That interrogation scene with the blurred face just keeps making me piss my pants. Its fucking hilarious. Why is everyone so serious on the Internet these days? Oh I forgot this has Peter Jackson’s name on it, so all the serious wanna-be filmmakers have already deemed it amazing. Go to /film or some place like that.
I like PJ’s work and i am not an idiot. He filmed 3 films in a row with Lord of the Rings, something no one has done so far and the guy received several academy awards. His work is very good sorry if you dont like him but I think you should not call people idiots because we are expecting something good when he is involved in a project.
Wil…looks like you’re the only one that is so serious. Reality check, and yes…stop talking.
Here is a better clip on YouTube explaining more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwyC2PW3vc8
It’s like the documentary films where the filmmaker doesn’t want to risk the life of a subject by exposing their face and voice. Poor alien, alone, abused, ignored, spilling his guts for a the future of his kind
Great idea.
Yeah, yeah we get that. It is just funny because you have this serious looking film trailer that ends with a giant, blurred roach talking gibberish. Just funny is all.
