Is there a secret war going on between Twihards and Antis? Well maybe, but not the way the website io9.com would like you to believe.
Yesterday io9.com and various other sources published a variety of “reported” attacks on non-Twilight fans that were published on the website Twilightsucks.com. The stories range from throat slitting attempts to wished miscarriages, here is an example:
“OK, I don’t hate Twilight. But I’m not in love with it either. Heres what happened. At lunch today every single girl at the table is talking about Twilight. I try to tell them about the crazed fan girl attacks that have been going on lately (which is making me dislike the series more and more). One of the girls actually tried to talk some sense into ME! She tried to explain that the Fan girls were just angry. And I said, ‘If people who don’t like Twilight, get on obsessed fan girls nerves that much Twilight should be destroyed!’ Some of the girls at my table understood. Some got really pissed. One of the girls marched off steaming. I thought I had made my point. But of course in Algebra I went to go sharpen my pencil, and that girl who marched off was in my class. she came up behind me and tried to slit my throat with a shank! She screamed ‘How dare you say Twilight should be destroyed!’ Now, I had to do something. So I took my pencil out of the sharpener and stabbed her in the side (thank god i had already sharpened my pencil or she wouldn’t have felt the stab). She lost concentration for a second or two, so she could look at the pencil sticking out of her…”
io9 took the time to look up the term “Twihard” in the urban dictionary, but what they should have really looked up was the word — Trolling, its an art we practice here often on Horror Yearbook:
“Trolling is the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet, generally on message boards. When done in a moderated internet community, this can result in banning. When done to uptight people such as fundies, this can result in hilarity.”
Example — Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer NOT Dead.
Twilight fans are the easiest fans to Troll; they are quick to overreact, quick to get pissed and always keep coming back for more (Here are some classic examples of Twilight fans responses after being trolled). However, they are not a blood thirsty cult looking to attack anyone who does not share their love of the Twilight books and movies. These “reports” on Twilightsucks.com are obvious cases of Trolling, fictional stories posted by adolescent boys (or girls) to further tease Twilight fans. It’s the Internet Age of pigtail pulling, and anyone who has been on the Interwebs for more than a couple of months should know better than to believe most if any of these tales.
So to answer my question; Stephanie Meyer is NOT the Next L. Ron Hubbard, the only war going on between Twihards and Antis is on YouTube, chatrooms and message boards. Sorry, but there are no blood thirsty Twihards looking to slit your throat because you don’t find Robert Pattinson dreamy.
