While I think script reviews are the dumbest thing published on the Internet, Latino Review has learned some interesting things about the Platinum Dunes’ A Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
The website read a 110 page script written by Wesley Strick (revisions by Eric Heisserer), and said that Strick followed Wes Craven’s original vision by sticking to the Freddy Krueger child molester story. They also noted that the wise cracking Freddy from the sequels is gone, but claim he is still a “straight up scary bastard” who wears a fedora, grungy sweater and of course his signature glove.
Strick also added more of Freddy’s back story through the use of “clever flashbacks and nightmare sequences.” You can check out Latino Review’s First Look Video here. It doesn’t contain any real spoilers, but what could you really spoil with a remake anyway?
This remake could work. How hard would it be to fuck up a Freddy movie? Just make him scary again. Drop the wisecracks, or keep them to a minimum. I’d rather have Freddy be a child molester than a stand up comedian.
I kind of want to see a Dream Warriors remake with a whole new bunch of kids with powers. It could be like the TV show heroes meets nightmare!
I think Freddy needs to be a kiddie fucker to establish him as a real villain. Having him torment and kill teens is a cop out, and too easy for him to become a cool anti-hero. Have him molest some 8 year old girls and boys, and you instantly establish him as a different character than the one that was in NOES 5 and 6.
Part of the allure to NOEs WAS his wisecracks! Thats what sucks, they are taking all the black humor out of these iconic films and turning them into “studio tampons” (yes, I know that is Dai’s word but its wildly appropriate here)
I like Freddy funny as hes about to kill the kids. Its sad they call them remakes and completely change the good parts.
I dont think your definition of black humor is correct. black humor isnt supposed to be funny. It should be sick. Movies like nekromantik have black humor. NOE 1 had some but eventually it just became straight humor. Freddy Krueger turning people into pepperoni\’s and eating them is not black humor, its just stupid.
