PG-13 horror movie defenders need to go away, because their argument is outdated. The PG-13 films of today, are geared towards the short-attention-span youth, who rather text message than watch what is on the screen. They’re not built on good stories and atmosphere like the non-R horror films of the past, thus making the PG-13 vs R-rated horror debate officially dead!
With that said, I’m not 100% against teen oriented horror films, I just wish they would make them a decent one instead of crap like Prom Night (2008). Maybe if they stopped filling films like The Unborn with cheap J-horror scares, the teens of today would actually put down their cell phones and pay attention.
So will Sony Screen Gems’s Stepfather remake break the bad PG-13 horror trend? We will find out on October 16th when it hits theaters, but my money is on “NO”.
