Hatchet 2: Not Quite Yet!

Evil Dead fans have been desperately looking for something to glom onto ever since Army of Darkness left movie theaters in 1992; they tried to do it with Rob Zombie, but so far he hasn’t 100% submitted, and refuses to deliver the kitsch fodder they need so badly need to enjoy a “horror” film. So thank god for them that Adam Green arrived on the scene a few years ago with Hatchet, too bad for them and Bloody-Disgusting.com that he has basically moved on.

Today BD uncovered the Hatchet teaser poster, a poster that has been sitting on the Hatchet “MySpace page for a month or more now,” according to Green. I guess, Bloody Disgusting and Horror Yearbook, have been too busy covering Twilight and Friday the 13th to notice. Remember when this film was the number one indie film to support? Join the Hatchet Army, blah, blah, blah! Well it seems things like Aquaman and Nickelodeon are way more important than that now. Green updated BD on the status of Hatchet 2:

“Hopefully it gets made this year if we can schedule it in a way that works for me. The only reason a production date has not been agreed upon is because clearly everyone in the HATCHET camp wants to do it at a time when I can be the one to return at the helm, and as you can see from the multitude of projects I am already doing (GRACE, his script for D.C.’s animated AQUAMAN film, FROZEN, GOD ONLY KNOWS, and a TV pilot he’s creating for Nickelodeon with Jack Black’s company Electric Dynamite), it’s going to take some very careful planning and scheduling to find a time where I am available to make the film.”

Don’t worry Evil Dead fans, you will be able to dust off your Hatchet t-shirts in no time because as Green points out, “As horror fans know, when a genre film makes money, the distributor most always makes a sequel. When a film becomes a studio’s most successful title, there is absolutely no question that they will make a sequel.”
