This is not our list, it belongs to VideoHound’s Golden Movie Retriever which has been outdated for quite some years now. Not to mention useless because of the Internet and websites like IMDB.com.

I used to look forward to getting the newest edition of the VideoHound but for horror fans in 2008/2009 it is probably not worth wasting your money anymore. There are just too many movies for them to cover, so the smaller independent horror films rarely make it into the book these days. Also the VideoHound was never too genre friendly in the first place, and their Ten Unbelievably Overrated Horror Movies list proves it.

First of all they list Hellraiser as number one, then list Clive Barker’s worst film, Nightbreed on their Ten Truly Underrated Horror Movies calling it “a wholly original monster movie that is so much deeper, cooler, and less obvious than the emo S&M of the Cenobites and their brethren.” It seems the Editor has a strong issue with “homoeroticism” and “S&M” and probably wishes he coined the term “Torture Porn.”

And in 2008 are they really still holding onto “Friday the 13th is a rip-off of the far superior Halloween” bull? That argument was exhausted 10-years-ago, can you at least come up with something new?

Top Ten lists are always highly debatable and like any list, VideoHound’s has some good and bad points, however, what is not debatable is their staff needs some fresh blood, and they need a new spin for their Golden Movie Retriever Guide, before they start getting added to Overrated lists too.
