No Near Dark Remake but Freddy Still on Chopping Block

Platinum Dunes has decided not to remake the 1987 vampire classic, Near Dark, due to the success of Twilight?

Producer Brad Fuller told Empire, “Near Dark is probably not going to happen. I think that Twilight was the same type of thing we were going for although Near Dark was a much darker, sexier, rated R version of that. But I’m concerned that, conceptually, that Near Dark and Twilight are too similar in terms of a vampire movie. For now, that movie is on hold.”

If producers over at Platinum Dunes think that Twilight and Near Dark are similar, then that really makes me scared of what they have planned for the Friday the 13th franchise, and their upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

Fuller also talked about the upcoming NOES with Shocktillyoudrop.com a few days ago:

“It’s like what we’re doing to Friday the 13th. t’s not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don’t fall asleep or you’ll die. This guy gets you when you’re most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. That’s the basis of the movie. It’ll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we’ll borrow from the entire series.”

No wisecracking Freddy or Near Dark remake is all good news. Lets hope it keeps coming until the end of the year.
