When I first heard that writer, J. Michael Straczynski told MTV.com that World War Z would be like The Bourne Identity, I thought “What the hell?” But after sleeping on it, I decided that its not so bad.
1. The Bourne films are considered good films. What is wrong with him saying Z is going to be like a good film? He could have said it was going to be like XXX: State of the Union.
2. This is not going to be your typical Romero zombie film, we knew that from reading the book, and when Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCraprio were battling for the movie rights.
3. He followed that statement with this statement:
“Most zombie movies to this point have been small, focusing on a few people in a house. And this has got real scare. You’re in India with hundreds of boats trying to get out of there with a tidal wave of zombies. The scale of what we’re doing here is phenomenal.”
And that is what we want to see from this film, a war between humans and zombies… A zombie war movie, so calling it a thriller is not a scary thing.
The other good news is that he told MTV that they are hoping to get production started “by the first of the year.” The sooner the better if you ask me.
