Lloyd Kaufman and TromaDance Need Your Help!

This is just a letter I republished from Lloyd Kaufman’s My Space.

Dearest Supports of Independent Art,

The 10th anniversary of TromaDance is fast approaching, and we desperately need your help. Every year, huge corporations spend millions of dollars on their seasonal SUNDANCE takeover of Park City, Utah, making it increasingly difficult for independent festivals to compete and survive. Which is why, every year since the creation of TromaDance, we have experienced increased costs for our Park City venue, housing, licensing, etc.

Yet in the face of a festival period dominated by commercialism, TromaDance remains committed to independent and free admission to our screenings. We don’t make any money from this festival. In fact, we usually come out with a loss. But we remain committed to promoting independent art!

The reality is, however, that TromaDance 2009 may not happen without the generosity of those who believe in our cause. We have already benefited from a great number of you, our fans, but we still have a ways to go! With TromaDance rapidly approaching, we appreciate any amount you can give. If everyone here could give $5, we’d be set! In fact, if everyone gave $1 we’ll be a hell of a lot closer to our goal. Last year we made our budget because of $5, $10, and $20 donations.

Please help make TromaDance 2009 possible!

And remember– contributions on behalf of TromaDance over $100 can be tax-deductible. Please email evan@troma.com for more information.

Help keep independent art alive and flourishing in Park City! Help support TromaDance!
