Casting Announced For New George Romero Zombie Film

Variety just announced the cast to George Romero’s sequel to Diary of the Dead that isn’t really a sequel. The cast includes:

Alan Van Sprang (Land of the Dead), Kenneth Welsh (Liberace: Behind the Music), Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick (Saw IV), Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti, (The Chronicles of Riddick), and Athena Karkanis.

The film started shooting this week in Ontario.

Plot via Variery — Inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.

The whole “not really a sequel” just sounds like Romero’s original zombie trilogy; Night, Dawn, and Day, they were basically sequels but not really sequels.

UPDATE: AICN has some “spy” pictures that they snapped on the set along with a “brief scene description,” you may see it all here.
