All horror fans wanted a great movie adaptation to Richard Matheson’s novella I Am Legend, but it looks like we may never get one. Instead we are going to get a prequel to Will Smith’s 2007 version. Variety reports that Smith is set to return along with director Francis Lawrence to help Warner Bros. cash in on the $584 million worldwide hit.
The screenplay being written by D.B. Weiss follows the final days of civilization before the virus wipes out the population in New York. I guess it will be right after the evacuation and right before Smith is the lone man in the city because that would be the only thing that makes sense.
So far the best adaptation is still Vincent Price’s — The Last Man on Earth in my opinion, but Smith’s wasn’t all that horrible.
