When it comes to “remake news” horror fans should have their gag reflexes pretty well trained by now, but when I heard they were remaking one of my favorite cult classics, Don’t Look in the Basement, I had to fight down a little vomit myself. That is until I heard director, Alan Rowe Kelly talking about his version of the film on HMF Radio the other night.
Hearing directors, actors and producers talking about any new film normally puts me to sleep. I have been caught napping at many convention panels and dinner meetings, and I also need a jug of whiskey just to make it through any Podcast interview — Kelly is one of the few to get my attention and hold it.
If his version of Don’t Look will be any good is left to be seen, but he definitely has some fire and personality in him, something drastically lacking in the horror industry and in a lot of horror fans.
Don’t Look in the Basement (2009) begins filming early 2009 in Southern Indiana, and stars; Jeff Dylan Graham, Debbie Rochon, Raine Brown, and Alan Rowe Kelly, himself as Lola Mason.
