Phantasm IV: Oblivion DVD

The nightmare lives on…

…but humanity may not!

You probably already own Phantasm 1 & 3 released by Anchor Bay, and while they have not been able to nail down part 2 for a new release on DVD yet, on August 26th Phantasm: Oblivion will be hitting your local video store shelves.

Oblivion (the fourth Phantasm movie) is the movie that supposedly explains it all, but if you have not seen it yet, be warned that the origin of the Tall Man is about as exciting as socks on Christmas. Anchor Bay calls Phantasm IV: Oblivion “The most bizarre Phantasm yet,” but what I think they meant to say is “the slowest and most confusing Phantasm yet.” All horror movies franchises start to go down hill once they start trying to explain too much, and OblivionOblivion on DVD is a must for all horror collectors and it still includes all the Phantasm staples that made us fall in love with the series in the first place; Reggie’s bald head, car and guns, demon midgets and of course plenty of deadly flying spheres. Oh yeah and of course Angus Scrimm as the always wonderful Tall Man.

There is nothing new to be said about the Phantasm movies that has not been said before. It is a horror classic that old fans will want to revisit and that younger horror fans will want to discover for the first time. Anchor Bay offers Oblivion in a brand new “never-before-seen” transfer, a retrospective featurette and newly recorded commentary by Don Coscarelli, Reggie Bannister and Angus Scrimm.

Synopsis:

For years, the Tall Man (Angus Scrimm) has waged a gruesome war against humanity, slowly populating the world with his undead legions. But two determined heroes, Mike (A. Michael Baldwin) and Reggie (Reggie Bannister), have pledged to stop the horrifying onslaught – for good! By hurling themselves through a gateway in the time/space continuum, they’re able to unearth a vital clue from their enemy’s past that may put an end to the horror. But the Tall Man, not to be so easily defeated, is massing his dark army for a blood-curdling final assault in which Michael and Reggie must fight not only for their own lives, but for the future of all mankind.
