Clive Barker knows what it feels like to be screwed over by the movie industry, and the horror community has been heavily debating if the latest film, based on his short-story Midnight Meat Train, was fucked over by Lionsgate, or was given a chance it should never have had in the first place. You may remember Meat Train’s release date was originally changed a few times, finally settling on a May 16 — theatrical release. It was then dumped in second-run “dollar theaters” and didn’t even screen in cities like New York. The question all horror fans have been asking is, why?
Barker has a theory. He recently told MTV.com that he believed Lionsgate president Joe Drake “was essentially shortchanging other people’s films in order to focus more attention on movies like The Strangers, where he received a producing credit.”
Barker also said he is; “very proud that the movie is surviving the nonsense. People are getting to see the movie. It’s sort of starting to have a cult life.” He also called Drake “small-minded” and a “nobody.”
“There’s room for everything,” Barker insisted. “You don’t have to shit on somebody else’s work to advance your own material.”
