Due to Internet problems at Horror Yearbook’s headquarters, we missed publishing Brain Hammer’s DVD picks on time. These are his horror DVD picks for the week of 6/17/08.

THE DEAD PIT (special edition): Code Red/BCI

Dr. Ramzi (Danny Gochnauer), a medical deviant who enjoys torturing his patients, is killed by a fellow demented doctor and buried in the basement of a mental health facility. Twenty years later, the hospital is up and running again and a Jane Doe (Cheryl Lawson) arrives at the institute with amnesia. Upon her arrival, a major earthquake rocks the building, unearthing the now undead Dr. Ramzi and his legion of zombie patients, who are eager to help him continue his gruesome work.

The special features for this two disc special edition dvd release of THE DEAD PIT include the complete uncensored version of the film, director, writer and cast commentary, on camera interviews with the director, writer, and cast, still gallery, behind the scenes footage, special effects test footage, and the theatrical trailer.

I consider this to be one of the most underrated zombie flicks of all time, and one of the last gasps of the 80’s horror craze. Support Code Red and check it out!
