Simpsons ‘Treehouse of Horror’

Simpsons ‘Treehouse of Horror XVI’ (2005 – Repeat) – FOX

The Treehouse of Horror series in the Simpsons show tells 3 horror-inspired tales in time for Halloween each year.

“Bartificial Intelligence” has a comatose Bart placed in a hospital and his position in the family filled by a robot in a riff of A.I. Bart exacts his revenge in a bloody and funny way. There is a mini spoof of The Exorcist right after this.

“Survival of the Fattest” is the best of these three tales. It has Burns hunting the Simpsons characters on his property similar to The Most Dangerous Game. The highlight is when Burns kills Apu who laughs and says, “You cannot kill a Hindu.” He is then reincarnated as a rabbit only to get stuck in a bear trap and beg Jesus for help.

“I’ve Grown a Costume on your Face” has everyone in Springfield turned into their Halloween costumes by a witch and only Maggie can break the spell. This one was only about 3 minutes long and ended abruptly with a mediocre resolution.

Bottom Line: Not the best of the Treehouse series.

Rating: 5.5/10

Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror XVII” (2006, New) – FOX Channel

The Treehouse of Horror series in the Simpsons show tells 3 horror-inspired tales in time for Halloween each year. This year opens with a Tales from the Crypt intro with Burns.

“Married to the Blob” features Homer turning into a gigantic blob after a meteor hits (ala Slither) and he insists on eating the green goo inside. This one includes the rap song “Baby, got fat” (I like big fat and I cannot lie) and a Dr. Phil that gets eaten.

“You gotta know when to Golem” features an ancient Jewish monster that will do whatever commands are asked of him. The highlight is when a drunken Homer mistakes the Golem for Millhouse.

“The Day the Earth Looked Stupid” is an Orson Welles “War of the Worlds” spoof. This was more serious in tone and devoid of any laughs, which is uncharacteristic of the Simpsons.

Bottom Line: Worth viewing for the first two tales. Can pass on the third.

Rating: 6.5/10
