Brain Hammer approved horror dvds hitting stores Tuesday May 20:
GRAPES OF DEATH (new disc): Redemption USA
GRAPES OF DEATH is one of cult director Jean Rollin’s most explicitly violent and gory films, and is released here fully uncut in all its blood drenched glory. Its story centers on a young woman who finds herself stranded in a remote village where a dangerous pesticide has contaminated the surrounding vineyards, transforming the locals into blood crazed zombies intent on slaughtering anyone who gets in their way.
In a rare departure from his trademark lesbian vampire films, Rollin here tackles the zombie and gore genres and manages to mix scenes that are reminiscent of Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD with startling images of gothic sexuality and blood drenched gore. This film really is a must both for lovers of Jean Rollin and the gory undead efforts of the 1970’s.
LUCKER THE NECROPHAGOUS (special edition): Synapse
In 1986, a young film school student named Johan Vandewoestijne shocked the film community in Belgium by creating one of the most disturbing, controversial and gory films to ever be released in that country. With little money and a love for the horror genre, Vandewoestijne won the hearts of horror fans worldwide with his little film called LUCKER THE NECROPHAGOUS.
For many years, LUCKER was one of the most sought after and widely distributed films on the grey market. Originally released only on VHS, LUCKER THE NECROPHAGOUS was distributed poorly. The original film materials were destroyed and LUCKER officially became a lost film for decades.
Now, over 20 years later, director Vandewoestijne has created the ultimate version of his shocking masterpiece using the only existing video materials in his possession. This Special Editon DVD contains the ORIGINAL uncut rare VHS version of the film and a documetary on the making of the film. Do you dare experience LUCKER THE NECROPHAGOUS for yourself?
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (new special edition): Dimension Extreme/Genius
Just in time to cash in on the dvd release of DIARY OF THE DEAD comes this new special edition dvd release of the original 1968 classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. If for some insane reason you don’t already own a copy of this horror classic, now is a good a time as any. It looks like a few of the bonus features are lifts from the previous Elite Millennium dvd release, but there are a couple of new goodies that might warrant a double dip for the hardcore DEAD fans.
The bonus features include:
-Original screenplay (PC)
-Still gallery
-Original theatrical trailer (for this new edition)
-Speak of the dead: Interview with George A. Romero
-Last interview with Duane Jones: Ben speaks.
-Documentary: One for the fire.
-Audio commentary: George Romero, Karl Hardman, Marilyn Eastman, John Russo.
-Audio commentary: Judith O’Dea, Russell Streiner, Vince Zurinsky, Bill Hinzman, Kyra Schon, Keith Wayne.

It’s too bad that DIARY sucked so bad. I would really like to give that one the Brain Hammer Seal of Approval but I just can’t do it. It was THAT bad. Sorry George. I hope you will forgive me.
KEEP THE BLOOD FLOWING!!!
