HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II: MGM/Fox

Hamilton High’s prom queen of 1957, Mary Lou Maloney is accidentally killed by her jilted boyfriend Bill Nordham on prom night when Bill’s stink bomb prank backfires in a big way and immolates her. 30 years later, Mary Lou’s wisecracking charred corpse comes back for some gruesome Freddy Krueger styled revenge. Bill Nordham (Michael Ironside) is now the principal of Hamilton High and his son Craig is about to attend the prom with a sweet virginal gal named Vicki. Vicki is possessed by Mary Lou’s malevolent spirit after opening a trunk containing her corpse in the school’s basement. Mary Lou unleashes Vicki’s deadly inner whore and Craig must face the horror that his father attempted to bury in 1957.

There’s lots of great death scenes and plenty of tounge in cheek theivery from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, CARRIE, and THE EXORCIST. Sadly, MGM gave this one the barebones treatment, but at least it will be easy to find for cheap.

SOLE SURVIVOR (special edition): Code Red/BCI

Long before FINAL DESTINATION, there was SOLE SURVIVOR. Terror stalks the sole survivor of a plane crash in this gripping, innovative horror story by Thom (Night of the Comet) Eberhardt. Television producer Denise Watson (Anita Skinner) is ready to resume her life after surviving a plane crash, until she starts to see strangers, threatening and malevolent, watching her every move. Plagued by night fears, and a series of terrifying near-miss accidents, she seeks help from her neighbor and her psychiatrist. But is she really losing her mind? Or is she under attack by emissaries of death, intent on repossessing her extra lease of life?

Code Red/BCI present this special edition dvd release that includes audio commentary by star Caren Larkey and producer Sal Romeo, moderated by cult director Jeff Burr (Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III) and film historian Jeff McKay, an interview with Caren Larkey and Sal Romeo, and the original theatrical trailer.
