PRETTY (2007) Short Movie Review

PRETTY 2007 (Unrated) - Directed by Victor Bonacore

PRETTY is a short horror film about a young girl whose sole wish is to be the prettiest girl there is, an obsession that may ultimately destroy her.

The slim 16 minutes quickly covers her young childhood as a disillusioned youngster with an angry mother and a potentially lecherous school teacher (played by Lloyd Kaufman) to her young adulthood where she struggles to fit in with the other pretty girls and find work as a model to her mid-age adulthood where she is so far gone that she views herself as another woman when she looks in the mirror and contemplates suicide as a means to get on the front page of newspapers.

Getting all the fanboys in a tizzy is Linnea Quigley who plays the eldest version of the pretty girl. Most people will be amused seeing Quigley fretting over her looks and calling other people nuts for assuming she needs plastic surgery. But the best part is the end where she unintentionally tears herself apart…literally.

Also, in a brief cameo role is Ruby Larocca (Flesh for the Beast, Orgasm Torture in Satan’s Rape Clinic). And, of course, we cannot forget the great Lloyd Kaufman who “pops up” as the young girl’s teacher and questions what she wants to be when she grows up. Why, pretty of course!

PRETTY appeared at the Coney Island Film Festival in 2007 and will be making the festival rounds in 2008.

Bottom Line: Satisfying conclusion to a short film with a real life aging Scream Queen.

Rating: 7/10
