Gory greetings and happy new year horroryearbook alumni! It’s been a slow stretch with no new Brain Hammer approved dvd releases hitting stores, so I decided to turn my attention to the future instead. After several days spent prowling around looking for info I’m pleased to present the following list of 20 horror flicks (supposedly) coming out in 2008 that I am eagerly, and not so eagerly awaiting seeing.
Wil already beat me to the punch by preparing a fine 2008 horror movie review of his own. Check it out HERE if you haven’t already.
I patterned the format of my list from Wil’s. Most of the info should be credited to imdb & fangoria. All of the release dates are subject to change. Blah blah blah. LET THE 2008 BLOODSHED BEGIN!!!
Brain Hammer presents: Twenty horror flicks to watch out for in 2008!
Please note, this list of twenty films is arranged solely by approximate release date info and alphabetical order. The first ten films are what I consider “new” efforts, the second ten films are all remakes.
Cloverfield (01/18/08)
A giant monster attacks NYC in the most anticipated upcoming genre release. I’ve been enjoying the trailers and tv spots which make this look like some sort of Blair Witch Godzilla 9/11 hybrid film. The PG-13 rating assures packed theaters, so hopefully this flick will make the popcorn munching mongoloids happy and rake in some cash. I want to see a new rash of giant monster flicks.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes (02/08/08)
Pseudo-snuff flick consisting of “lost” footage that a prolific serial killer captured over the years before his arrest. Reminds me of the “home invasion” footage that Henry & Otis shot in “Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer.” I’m looking forward to seeing this. It’s already tricking a lot of dimwitted people on the net into believing that that this is “real.”
Diary Of The Dead (02/15/08)
George A. Romero returns will his latest installment in the undying “dead” series. A group of young film students making a horror movie stumble upon the zombie apocalypse and document their demise. Hopefully this flick will improve upon “Land Of The Dead” and also give Romero the type of box office success he so richly deserves.
Mother Of Tears (April or May)
Another eagerly anticipated 2008 release, “Mother Of Tears” is the third film in legendary director Dario Argento’s “Three Mothers” trilogy. It follows the classics “Suspiria” and “Inferno.” An ancient urn unleashes the demonic power of the world’s most powerful witch. I’m sure this will be beautiful looking and thoroughly confusing in the proud Argento tradition.
2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillys (10/30/08)
The south’s gonna rise again! Director Tim Sullivan returns along with stars Robert Englund, Lin Shaye, and Giuseppe Andrews in this follow up to “2001 Maniacs.” This time around the maniacs head to Californy with their “Pleasant Valley Traveling Road Show.”
Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (?)
Director Ti West takes over for Eli Roth in this follow up effort. A high school prom turns into a bloodbath thanks to the deadly flesh eating virus that shows up in the kiddies bottled water. The one and only Giuseppe Andrews will be returning as Deputy Winston. Can’t wait to see this one.
My Name Is Bruce (?)
Bruce “Super Chin” Campbell directs AND stars as himself. Wow! The b-movie superstar is mistaken for his character Ash and has to fight a real life monster in a small Oregon town. This should be a lot of fun.
Robert Kurtzman’s The Rage (?)
Robert Kurtzman of KNB effects and “Wishmaster” infamy presents this violent film starring Andrew Divoff as a mad scientist experimenting with a rage virus on unsuspecting victims in the woods. The shit hits the fan when his infected subjects escape to go on a rampage and then mutated vultures start killing everyone too. Reggie Bannister from “Phantasm” also stars.
Return To Sleepaway Camp (?)
Who knows when this will ever see the light of day. 2008 seems like a possibility though. Felissa Rose recently said this film is just a “few effects” away from being completed. Writer/Director Robert Hiltzik carves a new trail at the Sleepaway Camp and surviving the summer will be a real killer. If you want more info I highly recommend going to www.SleepawayCampMovies.com
Eli Roth’s Trailer Trash (?)
If “Thanksgiving” was only a taste of what Eli has in store for us, this could easily be one of the most fun flicks in ages!
Now it’s time for the ten crappy 2008 horror remakes that I will probably see despite my best judgment.
Prom Night (04/11/08)
Hellraiser (09/05/08)
Scanners (10/17/08)
Motel Hell (10/31/08)
Day Of The Dead (?)
It’s Alive (?)
Last House On The Left (?)
The Stepfather (?)
Terror Train (?)
The Wizard Of Gore (?)
KEEP THE BLOOD FLOWING!!!
