Brain Hammer approved horror dvds hitting stores December 18:

HALLOWEEN (2007; R rated theatrical cut & unrated director’s cut 2-disc special editions): Dimension/Genius

The most sucessful slasher film of the year, and my pick for the best horror film of 2007 hits stores with a pair of 2 disc special edition dvd releases. My only complaint is the fact that the deleted scenes from the theatrical version do not appear as bonus features in the director’s cut release. Diehard fans (like myself) will have to buy both versions if we want to see as much of what Zombie shot as possible. This is my DVD PICK of the week. Everyone should check this flick out.

THE EVIL DEAD Ultimate Edition (new 3-disc special edition): Anchor Bay

Anchor Bay continues their relentless milking of the Evil Dead franchise by releasing this brand new 3-disc “Ultimate Edition” of Sam Raimi’s classic “The Evil Dead” that includes a whopping ONE brand new bonus featurette – “One By One We Will Take You: The Untold Saga Of The Evil Dead.”

The rest of this three disc set is comprised of the exact same bonus features and commentary tracks that were already included in the “Book of the Dead” release, as well as the other numerous dvd releases that proceeded AND followed it! With both the widescreen and full screen prints presented and a fair amount of bonus features spread out over three discs, this release looks a lot more impressive than it actually is. The problem is, we’ve seen all of this stuff before. I had to include this as a DVD PICK because the movie is such a fucking classic. However, I would only recommend this release to HARDCORE fans (completists) or the few people who don’t already own an “Evil Dead” dvd.
