Singer and songwriter Emily Wryn directed the upcoming film ROMANCE ROAD KILLERS. But it may be Shane Ryan, who shares the screenwriting credit with Emily, that gets some attention for now.
AMATEUR PORN STAR KILLER (Read Review Here) maestro Shane Ryan began working on the script for ROMANCE nearly three years ago, loosely based on a script he had written in the late 90’s.
Shane teamed up with (then) 15-year-old Emily, a local singer, to do the music for the film. (Does anyone spot the irony in that a filmmaker teaming up with an underage prodigy went on to make a film about raping an underage girl?… No? Okay, moving on…)
Shane was impressed with Emily’s ideas, music, and lyrics that he asked her to join him as co-writer. The close pair soon decided to direct together as well. They shot a concept trailer for the feature in late 2005 including a few selected scenes, and spent all of 2006 trying to get it financed.
The filmmaking team hasn’t had any success in financing their film yet, budgeted currently at $50,000. Shane found success in distributing AMATEUR PORN with Cinema Epoch. And with the AMATEUR PORN DVD release, Shane is pushing for ROMANCE financing again.
“If not, I’ll just do it myself”, says Shane. “That’s nothing new. I think we’d need at least $3,000 to do this film, but I could probably at least put that together. If we’re not financed by the end of summer (of ‘08) I’m just gonna do it, or else I’ll be too old!”
Shane started working on the script back in high school with his intentions being that he plays the lead. The script became a whole new movie years later (adding the idea of spree killer Charles Starkweather and his girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate), but the age of the characters stayed the same. Shane’s character is still 19 years old.
“I can still pass for that, but not for too much longer,” the 27-year-old Shane says. “So, this needs to happen soon.”
