MIDNIGHT MOVIES II COLLECTION (BODY FEVER, LAS VEGAS SERIAL KILLER, HOLLYWOOD STRANGLER MEETS THE SKID ROW SLASHER, BLOOD SHACK; 4-disc rerelease): Guilty Pleasures/Media Blasters
The fine fiends at Media Blasters are set to unleash yet another mind boggling collection of schlock cinema – this time a fearsome foursome of fucked up flicks from the notorious renegade director Ray Dennis Steckler! Here’s the rundown:
BODY FEVER (1969) – A sleazy detective yarn that revolves around $150,000 worth of stolen smack. Steckler stars as Charles Smith, a hard boiled private dick that narrates the movie in the proud “Joe Friday” tradition. “I like a funky broad who lets ya know what a really rotten night’s sleep she’s had.” One of Steckler’s more straightforward efforts, for whatever that’s worth.
LAS VEGAS SERIAL KILLER (1987) – A semi-sequel to “Hollywood Strangler Meets The Skid Row Slasher” with Pierre Agostino returning as Jonathon Klick. Klick is released on a technicality from the Nevade State Penitentiary after a six year stretch. He arrives in Las Vegas three days later and goes on a killing spree that will come to be known as “The Glamour Gulch Holocaust.” Sparsely dubbed and borderline incoherent.
HOLLYWOOD STRANGLER MEETS THE SKID ROW SLASHER (1979) – The heartwarming tale of the Hollywood Strangler and his doomed love affair with the Skid Row Slasher. The Strangler is a sleazy photographer in a Canadian tuxedo with an appetite for strangulation and pigeon stroking. The slasher is a prudish bookstore clerk who enjoys jogging and slitting the throats of winos. When these two crazy kids meet, the sparks really start to fly!
BLOOD SHACK (1979) – Steckler’s wife and kids star in this story of a haunted ranch with over 150 years of death within its’ walls. Cursed by Indians a century before, the blood shack contains the evil spirit known as “The Chooper” – which manifests itself in the flesh wearing a blue sweatsuit, sporting a cheap looking plastic sword and roaring like a dinosaur! Jim Goad says “Blood Shack is only fifty-five minutes from start to finish and so scary, you might even shit your pants.”
Best of all, the HOLLYWOOD STRANGLER MEETS THE SKID ROW SLASHER & BLOOD SHACK dvds both feature two different commentary tracks – one with director Ray Dennis Steckler and another with “Drive-In Movie Expert” Joe Bob Briggs! Joe Bob is a hero of mine, and any dvd release with a Joe Bob commentary track is Brain Hammer approved.
KEEP THE BLOOD FLOWING!!!
