Marcus Nispel will be directing the “Friday the 13th” remake for Platinum Dunes, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
This is either good or bad news for fans depending on what you thought of Nispel’s direction of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake, which was also by Platinum Dunes.
The film will start shooting in this winter.
“While Jason made only a brief appearance in the final frames of the first movie in 1980 and didn’t even don his famous mask until the third movie, the new movie will focus on Jason — who will wear the mask and kill — and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.”
This summation sounds like blasphemy considering the original film featured Jason’s mom as the killer. Original screenwriter Victor Miller wanted the to end with the mother dying and never envisioned Jason as a killer. I wonder what he will make his precious film being remade without his good intentions in mind.
