Messengers Prequel: SCARECROW EXCLUSIVE News from Writer Todd Farmer!

I was talking to screenwriter Todd Farmer recently and he informed me of his MESSENGERS script. As you may know, the original MESSENGERS was written by Farmer, but Ghosthouse Productions never actually read it. He was billed with Story By and someone else went it and completely rewrote the script, which turned into a turd at the box office.

Farmer says, “Ghosthouse never actually read my script, but the WGA rules are that the first writer is guaranteed at least Story By credit. When they finally did read it, they thought ‘this is really good.’”

So Sam Raimi finally took the time to read Farmer’s original script and decided it was good enough to be made on its own merit. And Farmer’s movie has…killer scarecrows.

“When I wrote it, it was previously called SCARECROW. There was a fear of killer scarecrows, but Raimi liked it. This was several years ago when people still had a problem with horror. They didn’t know they could make a horror film for $5-10 million and retire, especially when I did JASON X. It was really frowned upon. Now every studio has a genre division.”
