Rob Zombie’s Halloween DVD will be released on December 18th as an Unrated Director’s Cut.
I had the chance to talk to Danielle Harris today about the 11 extra minutes in the Unrated version and this is what she had to say about the new footage:
“It will have the original ending. I was surprised by what I saw during the screening because the ending with Loomis, Laurie, and Michael in the pool changed. There were also several scenes and extra characters that were cut from the film that you never saw.”
“I don’t think too much of me was cut, but you will see my character pushed out on a gurney, so the audience knows she is still alive. There were people confused about that. I never asked Rob if he meant to keep my character Annie Brackett alive as homage to my earlier character Jamie Lloyd (HALLOWEEN 4-6).”
Danielle would not answer questions related to the controversy that she was replaced by J. C. Brandy in CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS (Part 6) due to script problems and a small $5000 paycheck.
For those of you unaware of the original ending to Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN from the leaked work print online, here is a synopsis:
Loomis rescues Laurie from the empty pool, shooting in Michael in the back three times before he goes down like in the theatrical version. Loomis and Laurie take shelter in a police car, where Laurie asks Loomis if that was the Bogeyman (as seen in the trailer). Loomis replies, “Yes, I believe it was,” right before Michael smashes the window and pulls Laurie out of the car.
Loomis follows and corners Michael on the porch of Laurie’s house. Michael holds the knife to Laurie’s throat, but Loomis insists that he is the one who failed Michael, not her. The police surround Michael, but Loomis demands that they let him handle this. Loomis manages to break through to the trace of humanity left in Michael and he drops the knife and lets Laurie go. Loomis smiles, tells Michael he did good, and leads Laurie away. Once they’re free, the police open fire killing Michael despite Loomis’ pleas. The final shot is of Loomis standing over Michael’s dead body while the audio recording of their first therapy session plays over the soundtrack.
