Brain Hammer approved horror releases hitting stores October 23:
CUTTING CLASS: Lionsgate
I laughed my ass off when I saw the new cover that Lionsgate prepared for this one. Pittploitation, anyone? Hopefully a lot of dim witted Brad Pitt fanatics (is there any other kind?) will be tricked into thinking this is some new movie he starred in. I’m a big fan of this tounge in cheek 1989 high school slasher epic, which also stars Jill Schoelen (The Stepfather, Popcorn) and Roddy McDowall (Class Of 1984).
HELLRAISER 20th Anniversary Edition (special edition): Anchor Bay
Buy Hellraiser: 20th Anniversary Edition Here
This 20th Anniversary Edition release of “Hellraiser”sports a brand new anamorphic 1:85.1 transfer, and a wealth of new bonus features – including in depth interviews with stars Andrew “Scorpio” Robinson and Ashley Lawrence and composer Christopher Young. “Hellraiser” is a horror classic, and this new release will be a must have for the legions of rabid Pinhead fans.
HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB (special edition): Deimos/BCI Eclipse
“With its midnight séances, the undead rising from marshes, generous doses of nudity, blood drenched heart ripping and an eerie atmosphere, HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB rightfully deserves its place as a hallmark of euro-horror.”
My personal favorite Paul Naschy film gets the special edition treatment it rightfully deserves from the fine folks at Deimos/BCI. I’ll be snapping this one up for sure.
HOSTEL Director’s Cut (2-disc special edition): Sony Pictures
Eli Roth’s “Hostel” gets a two-disc special edition rerelease to coincide with the dvd release of “Hostel: Part II.” I’m curious to see what, if any new suprises this “unrated director’s cut” may contain, as Eli admitted on the previous commentary tracks that there was no unused gore footage lying around. More tits perhaps?
HOSTEL: PART II (special edition): Sony Pictures
“Hostel: Part II” is one the rare horror sequels that is actually superior to the film that proceeded it. I thought Part II was a major step up from the first film. (which I also really enjoyed) The sequel has better pacing, less annoying and better defined characters, and the brutal GORE was fucking amazing! I love it! I would recommend this flick to people who loved or hated the first one. This special edition dvd will feature interviews, commentary tracks, and the usual nonsense you’ve come to love and expect from an Eli Roth dvd release.
MARIO BAVA COLLECTION VOLUME 2 (6-disc set): Anchor Bay
This beautiful collection from Anchor Bay showcases eight incredible films from the legendary director Mario Bava and does a nice job representing the incredible diversity of his large body of work. This collection includes gothic horror classics (“Baron Blood,” “Lisa And The Devil”), cornball camp (“House Of Exorcism”), comedies (“Four Times That Night,” “Roy Colt And Winchester Jack”), mean spirited exploitation (“Kidnapped”), and a pair of incredibly influential and important prototype slashers (“Bay Of Blood” & “Five Dolls For An August Moon”).
KEEP THE BLOOD FLOWING!!!
