The Weinsteins are up to their elbows in genre fare now that they paid an expensive visit to the Toronto Film Festival and purchased some films.
Amongst their selection- Dario Argento’s MOTHER OF TEARS, George Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD, some French movie called INSIDE about a pregnant woman, and something else called SOLSTICE involving twins and suicide.
As for DIARY, The Hollywood Reporter says “several offers were considered, including some for video-only distribution. The Weinstein Co. deal includes a theatrical commitment.” The deal closed in the range of $2 to $2.5 million. Holy smokes! What is that in Canadian dollars? Why is the King of Zombies only getting a paltry $2mil for his films? I seriously hope he gets a cut of the backend profits. This is being released to the big screen baby.
The Weinsteins are co-acquiring MOTHER, but not sure with whom. No word if this will get some theatrical playtime with the other kiddies.
