Todd McFarlane and Michael Bay team up for OZ

Here is some interesting news. Todd McFarlane’s OZ, based on his figures from “Wizard of Oz,” is being shopped around by the help of … Michael Bay!?!

This is an interesting pairing to say the least. McFarlane likes macabre, sadistic, and sexual images, while Bay likes, well, he likes to blow shit up. According to IGN, OZ is budgeted at $140 million, an ambitious project to say the least, and Bay is willing to help with securing the financing. And while Bay does seem an odd choice to help with an incredibly dark film like this, he did produce the TCM and THE HITCHER remakes and is currently updating THE BIRDS and FRIDAY THE 13TH franchises.

“We actually went in there and for a while had Michael Bay going around with me pitching it. We had props, visuals, toys, storyboards, posters… I made little models of the city. I think it overwhelmed them. They said that they needed 20 minutes for a pitch and I was like, ‘I need at least an hour and fifteen. I’m going to act out this whole movie and show you the whole thing because this movie is going to cost at least $140 million to make. I don’t want you to not know what you’re buying.’” - McFarlane

I cannot wait for this to be made. The industry is seriously in need of some more dark fantasies. Hopefully this will fall right into place with such great films as THE CROW and DARK CITY.
