The Orpahange Being Remade

It is a known fact that foreign films (or films with subtitles) don’t do well with mainstream American audiences. People do not want to read a movie, so instead of giving the Spanish film The Orphanage a wide release, New Line Cinema just greenlit and English remake.

The Orphanage is being compared to The Others and is said to have Pan’s Labyrinth like quality. It is also produced by Guillermo del Toro who will also be attached to the remake. From Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona, the film is about a women who returns to the orphanage where she grew up to help handicapped children. When her son makes an invisible friend evil things begin to happen.

The original Orphanage is getting a strong buzz at the Toronto International Film Festival, and is still making the festival rounds.
