Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN (2007) - Movie Review

Fuck. I really don’t feel like trying to review this film, but a screener fell into my lap and I told Wil I would do it. So with minimal effort, here goes..

Rob Zombie’s Mike Myers

I reluctantly watched this yesterday and having not really known anything about it other than it being a Rob Zombie creation, it still met most of my preconceptions. They even played Don’t Fear the Reaper at one point. However, it seems that Zombie has at least learned from his previous films that people would rather see a movie shot like a movie, rather than a music video. Also, this time around when he dusted off ancient actors, he chose ones who could actually act; Dee Wallace, Sybil Danning, etc. McDowell was actually good in this as well and I’m pretty quick to dislike his performances.

The first half of the movie covers Michael Myer’s youth, where he was an ugly fat kid who liked to torture and kill animals. His dad, or mom’s boyfriend, played by William Forsythe (whom I’ve loved ever since he played the punk band/gang, Pain’s leader from the classic CHiPs episode) though being a scumbag, who I guess you are supposed to be glad was killed, completely reminds me of my friend Jon. Anyway though, Michael kills him, his sister and her boyfriend, goes to a nut house where the cinematography goes Kubrick.

After 15 years Loomis moves on, Myers escapes, blah blah blah blah, kills some people (less brutally than you’d expect from Zombie), there’s some tittes, he kills more people, more titties, etc.. You get the idea. Overall though, I have to admit I liked this movie, it was better than the past 4 or 5 Halloween films at least (not that that’s saying much). I probably wouldn’t even protest that much if forced to watch this again. Hopefully Zombie will continue to not cast, his usual buddies and make more shit instead of vomit.

Chris
