Eli Roth announced at Comic-Con that THE CELL is officially on hold while he completes his film TRAILER TRASH.
Roth talks about “The Cell” book to Horror Movies, “I love the opening [scene], but I also want to keep, not necessarily that same chaotic tone, but I want to keep the tension of the opening 40 pages of the book going throughout the whole film and introduce other elements. I think where it loses tension is where you don’t feel like the phone crazies are trying to kill them. It’s finding other ways to make it so you still feel the tension that any second you could get killed [and] carrying that throughout the whole film.”
THE CELL is based on the Stephen King novel about a phenomenon known as The Pulse that is transmitted by cell phones and drives people crazy. The script is not complete and Roth’s two writers are finishing it now. He even got the OK from Stephen King to adapt his book and the author is to have a cameo in the film. Roth says, “Because it’s like crazy people running around trying to [kill you] It’s like everybody gets a cameo.”
Is that a hint that we might see even more familiar faces?
