SAW V & VI in Development

The people at HorrorMovies have learned that a SAW V and VI are already in development before part 4 has even hit theaters.

Lionsgate has hired David Hackl to direct both the fifth and sixth installments of the franchise. Hackl is best known for directing IV, which hasn’t been released yet, and working jobs such as Production Designer and 2nd Unit Director on parts 2-4 of SAW.

This is a pretty quick decision made by Lionsgate considering SAW IV hasn’t seen the light of day and there is no telling how the hard R rated film will fare. But considering the previous box office success and its Halloween opening date, IV is sure to make some money. But whether or not the fans are sick of the franchise remains to be seen. I for one know a part 4 is unnecessary, so Lionsgate’s decision to continue may hurt the franchise in the long run. There is no telling what type of goofy plot devices will be tossed in to continue the story since it technically died in part 3. Seems like Jigsaw is becoming like Freddy and Jason at this point.
