The sick fuck known as NECRO is a hardcore hip hop artist who blends elements of horror and heavy metal to create his own brutal genre of music known as “DEATH RAP.” Necro is a worldwide phenomena, currently decapitating audiences on the SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND tour. He is also highly respected in the industry for his many years of hard work as an artist, producer, director, and as the owner/CEO of his own record label, PSYCHO+LOGICAL RECORDS.
Horror fans and horroryearbook alumni need to wake up and get familiar with Necro. Even people who normally hate rap (myself included) should check him out. No one has ever combined elements of horror and exploitation into rap music the way that Necro has. It goes way deeper than the tons of splatter flick references in his lyrics, his incredibly creative music contains the very essence of NYC grindhouse horror.
I am a huge fan of Necro, and was honored to recently have the chance to ask him a few questions about his love of horror, and his upcoming album.
Brain Hammer: What are your top ten favorite horror flicks of all time?
Necro: NO ORDER: BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS, MANIAC, BLOOD FEAST, 2000 MANIACS, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE – NEW AND OLD, THE HILLS HAVE EYES – NEW AND OLD, HIGH TENSION, SAW 3 – THE WHOLE SERIES TOO, COLOR ME BLOOD RED, RED DRAGON, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

Necro: BUD DWYER, THE VIETNAM SCENE WHERE THE DUDE GETS SHOT IN THE HEAD BY A SOLDIER, ALL THE FACES OF DEATH JOINTS, OF COURSE THE DRILL IN THE HEAD IN BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS, THE SHOT GUN SCENE IN MANIAC, TONS
Brain Hammer: What are your favorite kinds of horror flicks?
Necro: I LOVE THE NEW ONES, THE REMAKES, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW REMAKE, HILLS HAVE EYES REMAKE, SAW 3, THOSE ARE AWESOME, BECAUSE THEY ARE HIGH BUDGET AND STILL BRUTAL
BUT OF COURSE IM ALL ABOUT LOW BUDGET EXPLOITATIONAL HORROR, BUT ITS COOL TO SEE SOME HORROR GET THE RESPECT WITH A REAL BUDGET
Brain Hammer: Do you have a favorite horror director?
Necro: JOEL REED FOR BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS, BUT THERE IS ALOT THAT ARE AWESOME, CANT REALLY PICK ONE GUY AS MY FAVORITE
Brain Hammer: Did your parents let you watch horror flicks as a kid or did you have to sneak around and watch them with your friends?
Necro: THEY DIDNT GIVE A FUCK, I WAS WATCHING BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS AT LIKE 12 YEARS OLD
Brain Hammer: I’ve never heard any other rapper, or musician for that matter that can compare to you in terms of how obvious the horror influence is in what you do. Most attempts at “horror rap” come off as forced and corny, but it really sounds like you are doing what comes natural. How deeply has horror influenced your music?
Necro: A LOT, BECAUSE HORROR IS EVERYWHERE, MY CHILD HOOD WAS LIKE A HORROR, THE LITTLE KID FACING DRAMA EVERYDAY, HAVING TO GROW UP HIMSELF AND HAVE HEART AND COURAGE AMONGST THE WOLVES, AND OF COURSE WATCHING BRUTAL MOVIES AS WELL AND DIFFERENT SCENARIOS OF DEATH, JUST MAKES U CREATIVE, I FEEL U NEED TO BE ORIGINAL NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF CONTENT U HAVE
Brain Hammer: Some of the classic horror flicks you’ve sampled in your music include “BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS,” “MANIAC,” and “CREEPSHOW.” Then there’s all the crazy obscure horror flicks used for Mr. Hyde’s album like “BARN OF THE NAKED DEAD” and “MESSIAH OF EVIL.” Do you select all of the flicks yourself?
Necro: YES, EXCEPT HYDE FOUND HIS OWN SHIT, HE IS BIG ON HORROR FLICKS AS WELL
Brain Hammer: I love the way you used the score from “BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS,” and the way you incorporated music from “VENGEANCE OF THE ZOMBIES” in the beat of the song “NIRVANA” on your album “THE PRE-FIX FOR DEATH.” What horror flicks do you think have the best music for sampling?
Necro: I DONT JUDGE IT LIKE THAT, I JUST HAVE A CRAZY EAR, SO WHEN I HEAR SOMETHING ANYWHERE, IF IT GRABS ME I CAN FLIP IT INTO SOMETHING SICK, U JUST NEED TO BE A MUSICIAN, A TECHNICIAN OF EXECUTION
Brain Hammer: “BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS” was one of the flicks that warped my mind as a kid. The back cover of your “BRUTALITY PART 1” cd and your song “WHITE SLAVERY” tells me that you’re also a fan. You even sport a “BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS” t-shirt on the back cover of the “GORY DAYS” cd! Share your thoughts on that classic fucked up flick.
Necro: ITS INSANE, EVERYTHING IN IT, FROM RALPHUS TO SARDU, WHITE SLAVERY, THE WHOLE RACKET, THE BLACK MISTRESSES WITH FROS, THE SOUNDTRACK, THE CRAZY WOMEN CANNIBALS, THE WHOLE FLICK IS INSANE, I HAVE SEEN 1,000′S OF HORROR MOVIES, NONE FUCK WITH BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS
Brain Hammer: I also noticed a lot of love for “MANIAC” with songs like “JOE SPINELL” & “FRANK ZITO.” I’m guessing you’re a huge fan of that one too.
Necro: MANIAC WAS HEROIN, THE WAY HE KEPT TAKING TO HIMSELF AND DOLLS, AND HIS MOTHER, JOE SPINELL WAS A MESS IN THAT MOVIE, THAT WAS HIS BREAK OUT FILM, HE WAS IN ONE OF THE GODFATHER FILMS TOO, I JUST FOUND THAT FLICK TO BE BILE, MAINLY CUZ JOE SPINELL WAS SUCH A GREAT ACTOR HE COULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER IF HE STAYED ALIVE, RIP
Brain Hammer: I love the way you use the words of Dr. Louis Flellis from “FACES OF DEATH IV” in your song “WORLD GONE MAD.” My jaw dropped when I first heard that song because I am a big fan of that flick! What inspired that lyric, and is NYC really a world gone mad? Also, what is your favorite horror or exploitation flick that takes place in the Big Apple?
Necro: WELL BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS TAKES PLACE IN THE VILLAGE SO IT FEELS LIKE HOME, NEW YORK CITY 1976 WHITE SLAVERY SHIT, AS FOR FACES OF DEATH, YEAH I LIKE TO FLIP SHIT, I DONT COPY ANYONE, SO THAT SHIT JUST CAUGHT ME TO BE HOT FOR A HOOK, SO I FLIPPED IT, JUST SOME NATURAL SHIT, NYC IS FUCKED UP, AND A LOT OF SHIT IS UNDER COVER, HIDDEN
Brain Hammer: If a random horror fan who has never heard your music wanted to check you out, what songs or albums of yours would you recommend they purchase?
Necro: GORY DAYS AND PREFIX FOR DEATH WOULD BE BEST, BOTH HAVE EXTREMELY GORY VIOLENT LYRICS AND WOULD BE A GOOD INTRO TO MY BRAND OF MUSIC
