Okay, so the “Alone in the Dark” games were semi-hits that spawned 2 crappy movies. But we have a new “Alone in the Dark” on the horizon for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms coming this winter.

This “Alone in the Dark” steps away from the creaky manor and into NY’s Central Park. You play paranormal investigator Edward Carnby again, only this time he is a pyromaniac. You can torch junk, wooden rooftops, and even the hellbent creatures. The fire works in real time, spreading faster depending on the material. Another new change is that enemies can sense you by smell. This allows you to bait them with blood trails or a cadaver. You can also hop into cars and use the radios to pick up distress calls and turn on the heater to defrost your windshield! Each level of the game will act as an episodic show beginning on a recap of the previous gameplay and ending on a trailer of things to come in the next level.

This new “Alone in the Dark” sounds like the best to date. And the running around a fog filled park chased by creatures is very reminiscent of the popular “Silent Hill” series.
