Update: The Gate Remake

I normally don’t get excited about remakes. Especially when the remake is based on something I loved as a child, but I trust Alex Winter to make a kick ass version of The Gate.

But what’s the holdup? We’ve been hearing about this remake since 2009. Winter gave Icon vs. Icon an update on the status of the film:

“We’re in pre-production. It’s a pretty complicated effects job so I’m not gonna be shooting for a while. I’m not gonna be shooting ‘til the middle or late part of this year. Dealing with 3D test and creature design and all that kind of stuff right now which takes awhile.”

Winter added that he’s hoping for a 2012 release.

To see why I’m excited for The Gate remake, read this interview with Alex Winter.

In keeping with the original, The Gate 3D will be a PG-13 children’s fantasy that will provide the emotional rollercoaster ride of a horror film, without the blood and guts, and without resorting to the tool shed.
