Writer/ Director J.S. Cardone (WICKED LITTLE THINGS) is already hard at work on the PROM NIGHT remake, which may piss some old school fans off. But he is also readying to sink his teeth into THE STEPFATHER remake.
“We’re just finishing the development on THE STEPFATHER,” Cardone tells Fango. Cardone will write and produce the remake. Even he admits that finding a replacement for the terrifyingly memorable Terry O’Quinn will be tough. “Terry was terrific,” he says. “Some interesting names have come up, but in this day and age everyone wants someone with name value. The thing that worked for me with THE STEPFATHER was that Terry didn’t have name value; he really came from nowhere, and did an awesome job in that film.” So….he admits the film worked well without a big name star, yet is still pushing for someone recognizable in his take on the film? Ugh.
Whereas the original 1987 film focused on life with the stepfather after he has settled down and begins committing new crimes, the remake is said to be more inspired by the actual true crimes that the series was based on. The true story of John List was he suffered financial and family problems, then meticulously planned the murder of his wife, mother, and three children. He fled and lived under a pseudonym with his new wife for almost 18 years before being caught.
Set to be released sometime in 2008.
