Hammer Horror Is Back (Part of Our ‘Oops I Got Drunk And Fucked it Up’ Series)

Ooops I got drunk and fucked Molly’s article up…Oh well!

Horror Yearbook we only pretend to know what we’re doing…Brought to you by drunks, drug addicts, crippleds, people who ain’t right, and Molly since 2006!

Dear lord. In this era of remakes and reimagining, something new is afoot. The cult British horror label Hammer Film Productions is being resurrected by a bunch of European investors.

The group of would be saints or sinners include some Dutch dudes we do not know and some Hollywood types like producers Guy East (TERMINATOR 3) and Nigel Sinclair (SUSPECT ZERO). While financial details of Hammer’s 295-title library have not been released, this is said to be in the millions. They will soon begin production on small and big screen works according to the Hollywood Reporter. So basically rather than bringing back to life some of Hammer’s older works, they plan to release new films under the Hammer banner.

Prior to the deal closed on Thursday, Hammer had been in negotiations with Ealing Studios, but the deal soured when Hammer’s appreciation of its film library. “Private equity firm Cyrte Investments, led by de Mol, has acquired the rights to Hammer’s library, home of roughly 300 titles featuring the likes of Count Dracula, Frankenstein and the Mummy as well as the popular “Quatermass” franchise.”

But a problem facing the new buyers are that several of Hammer’s high profile titles, such as those starring “Dracula” and “The Werewolf,” are tied up by studios such as Universal and Warner Bros. making ownership of characters and remake rights an uphill legal battle. So we may very well see brand new Hammer films with brand new characters. Let’s grab our crucifix and pray they stay true to Hammer’s lavish horror productions.
