Rockstar Games is almost finished on the development of Manhunt 2. While the second in the series, it is not a sequel to Manhunt. The gameplay for the most part has stayed the same, but the plot and characters are different.
The new story follows scientist Dr. Daniel Lamb who is a regular family man working on a top secret neurological weapons program. After funding gets pulled, his boss an underground testing facility. Daniel volunteers for the experiments and later suffers from intense psychosis and paranoia, eventually landing him in the Dixmore Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Soon he has an opportunity to escape with his unstable friend Leo and they set off to figure out the events of their past.
While the plot is new, the gameplay and graphics are similar. However, there are new methods of executions introduced such as a using a phone line to strangle someone. The use of exploration is encouraged as well with Daniel being able to climb up & down, crawl through tight places like vents, and cloak the sounds of his movements with other noises. In one instance, Game Informer magazine reported being able to hide the sound of smashing a brothel window by timing it perfectly with the moans of a man getting a steamy lap dance inside. Oh and this is rated “Mature” like the first one.
Manhunt 2 is scheduled for release in Summer of 2007 on the Wii, PS2, and PSP.
