Halo 3 News:
More news on Halo 3. So, who here hates loud mouthed sexist, racist homophobes in the online tournaments? Well, Halo 3 is offering up a new solution. Bungie’s content manager, Frank O’Connor, has announced, “You simply press a button…and up comes the score list with everyone’s gamer tag on it. The right analog stick lets you highlight the miscreant and you can then instantly mute them for the rest of the game.” Excited yet? Of course you are. Expect even more updates when it hits shelves in Fall of 2007.
Oh and what’s up with the HALO movie you ask? Well, for many reasons that many people speculate on, Warner and Fox are not getting along. And while some of the production work has already been completed, things are on hold now. According to Xbox Bossman Peter Moore, as told to EGM magazine, “Universal and Fox had decided that they did NOT want to pursue the next step for the movie. Here’s something that is probably one of the Top Three cultural icons for the 18-to-34-year-old male, who Hollywood continues to complain doesn’t go to movies anymore, and for whatever reason they just don’t see the opportunity in a HALO movie.”
Left 4 Dead News
The Survival Horror sub-genre of video games is a favorite among many. Well, if you are not entirely sick of Resident Evil knock offs, there is a new game that may be of interest to you. Left 4 Dead is a fast paced, multiplayer, first person shooter featuring zombies, uh I mean, people infected with rabies. Turtle Rock studio is replacing the shuffling Romero-esqe zombies with hordes of rabid running Infected. One of the primary features of the game is the fully constructed online co-op mode. You can choose to take the role of an Infected, but the main draw could be a player in the Survivor squad. The focus is on sharing items, reviving downed friends, rescuing trapped friends, helping them onto ledges, and more. Also, there are no triggers to determine where enemies are placed, so the Survivor team will not be able to predict when anything will occur, thus making for some great repeatable gameplay.
Some enemies to look forward to are: Boomer (Methane-filled fatty that explodes when killed, tagging players with vomit that attracts other Infected), Hunter (Zombie ninja that leaps and punces onto players), Smoker (Zombie with a tongue that can strike up to 50ft and hang players by their necks. Collapses into a pile of smoke when killed, blinding players), and Tank (Big friggin’ Zombie that smashes its way through walls, slowly, but surely).
Now while this sounds similar to Resident Evil Outbreak, which left a bad taste in my mouth, I am leaning towards it being as playable as the Halo series. Expect to see a much anticipated release in Winter of 2007.
