Neil Marshall to Make Sherlock Holmes

According to Daily Variety, Warner Brothers is gearing up for a big budget adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s hero, Sherlock Holmes. Holmes is in the Guiness Book of World Records as the most portrayed character in cinematic and television history.

Producer Lionel Wigram is hiring none other than Neil Marshall to direct the film based on Wigram’s upcoming comic book.

Marshall is best known as the British horror director behind DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT. The latter of which (in this critic’s opinion) was the best overall film of any kind to be released in the US in 2006.

One of Wigram’s plans for the film is for Holmes to lose his “Victorian stiffness” and to emphasize action this time around.

This will be Marshall’s next project after his upcoming DOOMSDAY, to be released later this year.
