Despite early word that production designer David Hackl (Come on his last name is “Hack” you got to be kidding!) would be taking over the Saw franchise with the 2007 release of Saw IV, Fangoria has confirmed with scriptor Leigh Whannell that the fourth in the series will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II & III). This may or may not be good news depending on how you look at it. But at least the series will stay in familiar hands.
Or will it? Neither James Wan nor Leigh Whannell will be scripting Saw IV. Instead writing has been credited to no less than 4 writers so far including Feast scriptors Marcus Dunstan & Patrick Melton along side two other writers, Thomas H. Fenton and Marek Posival, with almost no previous writing credits to their name. This may be a bad omen. Speculation has been swirling that the series is dead in the water and Part 4 will be a good indicator whether it can stay afloat or sink to its watery grave.
