Cannibal Holocaust Remake

There has been news swirling about a Cannibal Holocaust remake…or two? Apparently, Relevant Entertainment has picked up the rights to remake Ruggero Deodato’s 1980 movie. Very little is known about this company or the impending remake. Their website is www.relevantent.com, but is quite bare!

This is terrible news. Not just because it is yet another remake coming, but because they could not possibly recreate the genuine horror the audience experienced with the original. There is a reason this film was banned. I seriously doubt the US could come close to renewing that feeling of disgust when we watched the muskrat getting stabbed. For REAL. Remaking an accused snuff film is idiotic. Besides, we do not need another Blair Witch Project anyway. Oh and the jig is up. We found out at the end of the original what really happened to the missing crew members. I don’t need to be told again.

There are also other strange rumors about an unofficial remake by Jonathan Hensleigh (The Punisher 1 & 2) and Gale Anne Hurd (Terminator 1-3). Welcome to the Jungle has been completed and the US Rights have already been sold. Ryan Turek (Fangoria) previewed a screening and apparently, the gore does not kick in until after a whole hour after the film starts, but hits the same plot points and tries to recreate some of the more brutal scenes such as the “woman impaled on a pole through her ass and out her mouth” shot. Umm, and apparently the Guns N’ Roses song “Welcome to the Jungle” plays over the end credits.
