THE PASSAGE Movie News

Fox 2000 and producer Scott Free inked a seven figure deal to adapt Jordan Ainsley’s vampire series “The Passage” to film according to Obsessed with Film. There is already news of Ridley Scott sitting in the director’s chair. The synopsis is as follows:

“When terminally ill cancer patients get healthy after being bitten by bats in South America, the government conducts secret tests with human subjects to see if a virus can cure illness. Instead, it unleashes a swarm of bloodthirsty vampires out of the test subjects, which include death row inmates.”

The first book in the vampire series is said to be a cross between 28 WEEKS LATER and THE STAND. But its release is set for early 2009, which means the movie will not be coming until after that. Possibly as a summer blockbuster? That is a long time, but considering the money shelled out to back this ambitious project, it may be well worth the wait.
