The Darkness video game is based on the comic book in which Jackie Estacado, a mafia hitman, inherits violent powers on his 21st birthday. Starbreeze Studios (The Chronicles of Riddick) is developing the game with stealth, strategy, and light RPG gameplay. Estacado must defeat his former Mafia employers during the reality and then defeat the creatures in the parallel reality of the Otherworld.
About 2 fifths of the game takes place in the Otherworld, looking like a perverted version of First World War where soldiers fight for eternity, never dying. Some of these people look like jigsaw puzzles, as they have been pieced back together so many times. Here in the Otherworld, Jackie fights with his supernatural guns powered by his darkness that can only be replenished by staying out of the light. As Estacada, you can replenish your Darkness by devouring enemies’ souls and then manipulate environments, like destroying lights or unlocking doors, by controlling your darkness. The lead singer of Faith No More voices “The Darkness”.
Releases June 25th 2007 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
