BIG BAD WOLF will be hitting DVD June 5th by Screen Media and just finished its limited theatrical run in Los Angeles last weekend when it premiered at the Fine Arts Theater. And for those of you who haven’t heard of this nasty little treat, it is a strong sexual meditation on the lycanthrope folklore similar to the Brother Grimm’s tale of “Little Red Riding Hood” with its warning of sexual predators.
Director Lance Dreesen tells Fangoria, “I’ve always felt that the werewolf is the incarnation of the primal id—the beast within man. And if that beast was unleashed, it wouldn’t just go around devouring people—it would rape and pillage as well. So we didn’t want to shy away from that. It might make some people a little uncomfortable, but he doesn’t go through the entire film raping people. But it is part of the film—one I believe is true to the nature of the werewolf myth. The Wolf wracks up a pretty big body count in our film. We have legs being shredded off, stomach-churning eviscerated torsos, decapitations, blood-drenched maulings, throat rips, impalings and a really nasty castration!”
David Naughton (AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON), Clint Howard (EVILSPEAK), and Shannon Malone (lemme guess, this model plays a rape victim?). But I am really interested in Richard Tyson who plays the beast and also starred in STRIPPER ACADEMY and “The Red Shoe Diaries”. Hooray for softcore porn!
The SFX was provided by Jason Collins (HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL) and Elvis Jones (WIZARD OF GORE) of Autonomous FX. Director Dreesen addes, “Michael Shelton, who was instrumental in the effects for THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE, is creating a transformation sequence that is going to raise the bar for werewolf films to come!”
This will be sure to please werewolf fans like WIL who famously asked BLOOD & CHOCOLATE writer Ehren Kruger if his PG-13 film had any “werewolf sex or nudity” in it.
