Werewolf in a Women’s Prison
Directed by Jeff Leroy
Review by WIL Keiper

It’s been a long time since I visited the Women in Prison genre and this week it’s not an old film that marks my return, but rather a new film titled WEREWOLF IN A WOMEN’S PRISON. WEREWOLF is a Grade A - B-movie, not overly silly like the poorly done Shock-O-Rama “PRISON-A-GO-GO.” WEREWOLF manages to deliver all the wonderful WIP clichés with an added werewolf twist. My only major complaint is its tad bit too long.

Some chick is camping with her boyfriend when a werewolf attacks them. Her boyfriend is killed and she is left alive but bitten, which means she later turns into a cheap looking werewolf with light up eyes. When she is blamed for her boyfriend’s murder, she is sent off to a corrupt foreign female prison…Yay! Let the games begin. The she wolf looks like one of those cheap Mexican stuffed animal rip offs, [Editor's Note: I don't even know what that means!] but the gore is exceptionally well done and there is plenty of it. There is also plenty of lesbian sex scenes and gratuitous nudity, which is a must have in any Women in Prison film. There is even a touching scene where two prisoners are punished by being chained in the brutal desert heat naked. In order to survive they must lick the sweat off one another. This scene adds a sense of humanity to the film and if I had not already completed my “Top Ten Touching Horror Moments,” it may have made the list. Other highlights include a woman being ripped in half, and an obvious rip-off, *cough*, homage to AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON where the chick’s boyfriend comes back from the dead to warn her of her new curse.

It’s been ages since a good Women in Prison film has been made, hence the title of this section. It is truly a lost art in filmmaking, but the great people who brought us WEREWOLF have dusted off the old genre and added a friggin werewolf! And for that, I thank them, because the Lord knows we could use more films like this! But now I can’t say they don’t make them like they use to because they just did!
