We previously did an article about a film called Death Walks the Streets asking if it was a scam or an actual movie. (Read Article Here) Was it an independent film made by struggling artist, an epic multi million-dollar trilogy, or just an excuse to sell hoodies, CDs and every other product ever associated with movie tie-ins? I’m still kind of confused on what it is supposed to be, even after the slimy so-called producer of the nonexistant film, Matthew Pletcher, tried his best to discredit us.
Matthew Pletcher’s trail of bull is so hard to follow that if I had any money I would have had to hire a detective to figure it out and untangle his web of lies. But with the help of lots of people who either smelled the fishy smell that seems to follow Pletcher, or he has personally screwed, I have uncovered some interesting facts about the man hiding behind the façade of the production Death Walks the Streets, a few very interesting smoking guns if you will.
The only thing Matthew got right about HYB in our 3 or 4 day fight with him, which ended in lawsuit threats, is that HYB is not an investigative journalism site. I never thought I would be trying to uncover a possible scam so big that he may be breaking the law or screwing people out of money. Only through a lot of help from many various sources that would like to see Matthew burn have I have uncovered these facts that I am presenting to you today. These facts seem to prove that DWTS is a lot bigger of a beast then we had originally thought, and possibly one of the biggest scams in Horror. Do what you will with the information we uncovered and decide for yourselves:
According to IMDB and claims made by Pletcher directly to me state that Death Walks the Streets is supposed to be currently filming. A simple call to the offices of the Screen Actors Guild revealed that no signatory bond for any film under the name of Death Walks the Streets, DWTS or 60-666 (one of the films supposed working titles) has been secured with SAG. Which means according to the SAG Signatory offices “Any SAG actor would be in direct violation of SAG rules if they worked on this film.”
According to Pletcher Death Walks the Streets includes a “cast of A-List actors” which really means a team clueless TV actors. If this is true then all of these actors better be careful NOT to step foot onto a set for Pletcher or they may be in a lot of trouble with SAG. The signatory bond with SAG is a bond that must be secured before production that guarantees that any SAG actors signed onto a film will be paid. If Pletcher does not have this bond it means he, he cannot be filming with ANY SAG registered actors.
It also seems that good old Pletcher is not paying his taxes since two sources have informed me that his “production company” Baby Galigo Films/Studios, and Death Walks the Streets LLC was involuntarily dissolved by the state of Illinois. Which according to one of my sources, “In my experience, involuntarily dissolution has to do with only one thing: Not paying your taxes.” This is also more proof that Pletcher probably doesn’t have the money he claims to be making this film. Also according to the Illinois State Film Office they have no record of any production by, or under, Death Walks the Streets, Baby Galigo Films/Studios, or Matt Pletcher.
These three facts overwhelmingly seem to indicate what we thought about Matthew Pletcher all along, he is a liar and a small fish pretending to be a big fish.
Also from dealing with Pletcher and from the many E-mails I have received I have learned that he has a reputation as a bully/hot head that will do anything to get any negative comments squashed about him, his fake companies, charities and film. Even stooping low enough to get negative fan comments banned on IMDB message boards. Pletcher’s biggest mistake was attacking Horror Yearbook, and being foolish enough to think he could bully us. The facts we have presented here pretty much prove Matthew Pletcher’s so-called empire and children’s charity only exist in his mind and to the five people who claim to be such dedicated fans that they call themselves “Death Walkers.” I feel bad for the people involved with Pletcher that do not know the scams he is up to and hope the people in on the charade burn with him when his whole project implodes. If anything it is certainly clear to me that a lot of people have already been burned by this rat and there are many more to come.
Horror Yearbook is not an investigative news site, we did the first story on DWTS out of sheer curiosity. When Pletcher started trying to bully us into submission that is where he made his biggest mistake. It would have been one thing if he was trying to finance a poorly planned film with independent financiers,, that is his business if he wants to make a bad movie. But he tried to take advantage of the horror community, lying about the production, selling over priced merchandise for a film that doesn’t exist, and promising something he could never deliver. What makes him think that a well oiled marketing machine would be a suitable replacement for a good horror film? He could shut me up a long time ago (not an easy thing) had he just done what he said he was going to do. I really don’t understand the motivation behind this, he seems to have already spent several times over the budget of a independent film, he seems to have been caught up in playing the producer rather than finishing anything.
I am sure this article will have him slithering out from behind the rock he has seemed to have crawled under to threaten to sue me again, but all I can say is the facts I have presented speak for themselves and you can check them out for yourselves through the links below. I will also keep an eye on Matthew in the future and also encourage anyone with a story about him they would like published to contact me. You can do it anonymously if you like. That way we can hopefully save a few people from being screwed by this rodent like he has already done too so many in the past.
